This excellent historical book covers the attack on the West Wall, Hitlers last defensive obstacle in the west. It covers in detail the battles in Hurtgen forest and beyond, when Patton finally crossed the Rhine. It is a fitting tribute to the men who died, on both sides, in those terrible battles. ( ) A brief history of the battle for Germany's west wall. Written in narrative style with an overarching picture of the strategic position brought to life by many anecdotes and vignettes. For me it is all the stories of how the people involved tried to cope and were dramatically changed by their experiences and not just the tales of individual heroism which brought the whole set of events to life. I really must find out where and when my granddad was involved in this - he was in the Royal Marines. Well written, in story telling mode rather than lecturing mode, and with a very human appreciation of the sufferings of his subjects. Well worth a read. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
