This is a beautifully illustrated book. The cover is what pulled me in, but the insides are even better. It is also very informative and a great book for just perusing through. It's not one that necessarily needs to be read cover to cover, but one you can just look through and learn at your own pace. ( )

Second, if you're reading this to a kid, you may want someone who doesn't read yet so you don't have to read ALL of it.

See, this is really meant for older kids who can read and explore a text on their own. Lots of side bars and fun facts and such. It's a book for exploring. Not merely reading. Which, imo, means it's best for a kid who wants to explore solo.

The absolutely beautiful illustrations in this book will please children and adults alike. My child enjoyed the story and the easy-to-understand scientific information gives it a place at home and in the classroom. ( )
