When a homeless young omega comes by Burke's pub asking for work, Burke doesn't have the heart to send him away. He lets the boy help with some chores in exchange for food, and soon, Emerson's visits become regular. Then one frosty December night, the boy keeps his head down, hiding in a corner until closing time and looking like he wants to disappear into the ground. Emerson is about to go into heat, and he has nowhere to hide. People say Burke is ugly and scary, but Emerson has never been afraid of the burly pub owner. The big alpha has scars down the side of his face, but so what? He must have been in a lot of pain once, poor man. When snow covers Dalton City, and Emerson realizes he's only days away from his first heat, his feet carry him to the pub by themselves. Burke is the only alpha Emerson trusts not to hurt him. And given the choice between freezing to death or getting abused, Emerson would much rather offer himself to Burke. Except Burke is probably the nicest man in the entire city. Stunned, Emerson finds himself safe and warm during the snowstorm, without having to sacrifice anything. Maybe he's even a little bit in love with his rescuer. . Ugly is an omegaverse gay romance, mpreg, non-shifter. High heat, monogamous couple, HEA. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

Burke takes one look at the vulnerable omega and feels the least he can do is let him stay until his heat is over.
This was a low angst omegaverse with a scarred alpha hero and a young vulnerable homeless omega with no where to go and no one to turn to when he has his first heat.
I wouldn't say I was expecting much of this - but I was expecting better than it was. The heavier topics of homelessness and prostitution were never really explored. There was some weird subplot with the cook, Mark that never really went anywhere and the feelings between them were shallow and limited to they have sex. The end. It started off okay and then never really developed any further, just 188 pages of sex. Bad sex. Really really bad sex. It was actually rather painful to read. The sex was repetitive and frankly, got pretty weird ands somewhat traumatic. I know there's lots of kink out there but whatever this was, wasn't for me.
The biggest problem regarding the plot was Burke never had any feelings of any type before Emerson turned up in heat. It was hard to believe any genuine feelings resulted from that. If he'd had a crush or something it might have made it less ridiculous but he doesn't. And mind you - neither does Emerson. They just have sex and decide they're meant to be. I can get behind fated mates but this wasn't really that either.
Overall, a relatively low angst omegaverse romance let down by ridiculous and over the top repetitive sex scenes and an unbelievable romantic connection. 1 star. ( )
