"A young girl, anxious about her new surroundings, finds that a pack of friendly dogs has moved into her mind. In an effort to allay their restlessness, the girl begins to draw them--everywhere. Her constant doodling and daydreaming worries her grandmother, teacher and tutor, who want the girl to focus on her schoolwork. But the dogs bring the girl comfort--and they maybe even come to her rescue one night after she gets lost and hides in a neighbour's shed! The story ends with the suggestion that the attitudes of those around her shift to accommodate her pack of imaginary friends. Touching on issues of anxiety, this is a touching story about overcoming fear with the help of inner strength and the power of imagination. Inspired by a Japanese folktale called "The Boy Who Drew Cats.""-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

Beautiful and affecting story about a child who becomes obsessed with drawing dogs to the point where it interferes with her life and schoolwork and concerns her family and teachers. When confronted about it she runs away and hides. She becomes frightened and draws more dogs to self-comfort. She hides overnight and is found the next morning. Some magical realism at the end.
I think this has the potential to be a good book to introduce some difficult psychological concepts and ideas to older children. But I don't think it's a good book for small or anxious children. After reading it I decided not to share it with my girls.
