Cat is hosting another writers’ retreat at Christmastime, and all the writers are working on nonfiction books. One writer is supposedly working on an expose of the college there, which is not a good idea. As regular readers of this series know, the college has some mob connections, and that is something that writers shouldn’t write about, and that becomes quite clear in the early part of the story. This mystery is a short and quick read, yet it contains everything a cozy mystery should. There was a bit more backstory about Cat’s ex-husband Michael, now deceased, and some of his college friends. Dante, part of “the family” is an important part this story and of the secret that eventually comes out. I enjoy reading about Cat and her upcoming wedding to Seth, but there are still unanswered questions about her past and Michael’s. I’m not sure Seth is a good match for her. I didn’t like the way he practically abandoned her in this story. Too bad he isn’t a bit more like the dashing Dante! And I’d like to see more of Shauna and more of her delicious recipes that are always talked about! This series is a winner. ( )

Cat Latimer is hosting a group of non-fiction authors in the final writer's retreat of the year. But before even the first discussion gathering, one of the writers turns up dead in his room. Not a great start.

Did one of the other writers have a problem with the victim, was the victim followed and killed at the first opportunity, or was there something in the past that resulted in his death.?

I find this series intriguing because of the background info that is interspersed about the writing process and how it seems that writing different genres also results from a different process.
