Another enjoyable read by Anne Bishop. I may have liked the World of the Others trilogy better than the original Others books! Ok...not really...I love them all so much but for different reasons. If this is the end of the series, I am content with everyone's stories but secretly hope we get more set in the world Bishop created. The latest in the Others series is again set at the Jumble during Trickster Night with a full complement of guests. Someone decides to dress up as Crowbones, a Crowguard boogeyman and scare the Crowguard during Trickster Night. The scare does happen but then so do some deaths. The Elders ae upset by this fraud and block the town from the rest of the area and kill the fake. They also want the humans in the area to solve the problem of who set it all up. Vicki is at the Jumble with several guests who not all what they said they were when they checked in, the town has had a rash of people coming in that are also not who they say they are, and the local Sanguinati are also hosting several fosterlings and something about them isn’t quite right either. Now they need to find the truth quickly before the Elders take to killing everyone human and Terra Indigene alike. Digital review copy provided by the publisher through Edelweiss I'm not a fan of Vicki DeVine (MC). While Vicki has been traumatized by her ex-husband and certainly needs healing, the tone of her internal monologue is too... childish. She is the epitome of Bishop's "naïve, child-like, but grown woman" archetype, which worked with Meg in the original Others series, but only because she was enslaved and kept apart from the rest of the world. Gentle and understanding heroines have their place, not every MC has to be an ass-kicker, but Vicki only reacts while the male POVs (namely Grimshaw, Ilya, and Julian) drive the story. The world building is, as usual, good, however I'm beginning to question if the terra indigene are anti-colonial or a version of Native stereotypes, especially the Elders. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

"In this engrossing and gripping fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, an inn owner and her friends must find a killer-before it's too late.... Crowbones will gitcha if you don't watch out! Deep in the territory controlled by the Others-shape-shifters, vampires, and even deadlier paranormal beings-Vicki DeVine has made a new life for herself running The Jumble, a rustic resort. When she decides to host a gathering of friends and guests for Trickster Night, at first everything is going well between the humans and the Others. But then someone arrives dressed as Crowbones, the Crowgard bogeyman. When the impostor is killed along with a shape-shifting Crow, and the deaths are clearly connected, everyone fears that the real Crowbones may have come to The Jumble-and that could mean serious trouble. To "encourage" humans to help them find some answers, the Elders and Elementals close all the roads, locking in suspects and victims alike. Now Vicki, human police chief Grimshaw, vampire lawyer Ilya Sanguinati, and the rest of their friends have to figure out who is manipulating events designed to pit humans against Others-and who may have put Vicki DeVine in the crosshairs of a powerful hunter"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
