This was gold! Besties: Work It Out impressed me with its themes and thoughtful characters. I loved seeing a kid acknowledge how hard her mom is working and wanting to take care of her.

The story showed perfectly the deeper awareness you get as a kid when you realize the weight of adult responsibilities and MONEY. Some of us discover it earlier depending on our circumstances, but the conclusion is usually the same.

Chanda and Beth were so much fun together. They were chaotic and quirky but loved each other. The artwork was better than ever. The lines were sleeker (I see you Clip Studio Paint), and the color direction was phenomenal.

Something I loved was the spin on “lying, and I hope they don’t find out.” Ending spoiler:The girls legit work hard to undo their mistake and even get help from an older sibling. They honestly get away with it all until one little mistake. It’s a refreshing turn on the trope, but still manages to admonish honesty. Loved it!

I’m always game to read more from the Click series and now Besties! ( )

6.5/10, I enjoyed this one, but I couldn't really relate to the story, I think it needed a little bit more emotion to it. I liked the character development within the story, since both main characters developed a sense of responsibility, even though they are around 11-13 years old, but they were irresponsible before that, but I think that was the point of the story. The art was good as well, but the typeface was a little hard to read. The plot itself was simple, and light hearted which makes sense, considering that it's for younger kids, not older readers who would read YA, that's why I didn't enjoy as much, but maybe I would've liked it better if this were released around 2-3 years ago, when I would've been the right audience for this novel. My only problem with this novel is that other than the two main characters being responsible now, they were on the flat side, though I did like Beth's sister, which acted like a mentor for her. If you like graphic novels, this is the book for you. ( )

Beth Wagner
Chanda Basu
Lisa Wagner - Beth’s older sister, can drive, helps the girls a lot

Chanda and Beth are not happy when their lemonade stand fails miserably. Beth really wanted money to give her mom and much deserved spa day and Chanda wanted to show her parents she is responsible enough to adopt a cat. How will they get money now? Thankfully, Lisa offers them the dream job—house and dog sitting for a wealthy neighbor. Chanda let’s the excitement of the house ( )

Kayla Miller has worked out a good formula in her Click series of middle schoolers dealing with low-key middle school issues in a cute and reasonable way, and now she is able to successfully apply it to this spin off with a co-author and new artist. Best friends Beth Wagner and Chanda Basu are doing odd jobs to earn some cash, but have to work out some issues regarding responsibility and honesty when they mess up at one of the jobs. Nicely done.
