Owen Montgomery is arrogant and unfeeling-with cold, haughty manners and a British accent sharper than any knife. I've been secretly in love with him for years, knowing there's no way he could ever notice me. The scholarship girl. The poor girl. Until that night in Ibiza . . . I vow to focus only on my future. Little do I know that I've awakened an obsession in Owen that will soon outgrow the halls of Pembroke Prep and spill over into the real world. Owen wants me, and he'll stop at nothing to have me. Soon I find myself with an impossible choice. Do I choose my goals? Or do I choose the blueblood whose kisses are as brutal as his love? Contains mature themes. I must have been living in a bubble because somehow not only had I missed this part of the Midnight Dynasty world that some of my favorite authors have contributed stories to, but I also had not discovered this author yet. Shame on me, because there was a richness to the writing style that I wasn't fully prepared for. There is no doubt that this author can pen a fantastic series that had me mesmerized from the first to last paragraph.
Grumpy, standoffish, unfeeling men are a weakness of mine which made Owen that much more tantalizing. I loved watching a man that had everything stumble and fall a couple of times in his pursuit of Tanith. Even when he had the best of intentions he still seemed to have foot in mouth syndrome. Coming from a man who was so perfectly perfect, it was refreshing to see. I loved everything about him, especially, his dirty mouth.
Tanith was a girl to admire. I appreciated her tenacity in making sure her dreams and education were a reality. I could sympathize with her for being the odd one out of her group of friends because she did not fit into the elite circle. However, I found myself not connecting with her in regards to Owen at times because she seemed immature and rash in how quick she was to get angry at things that were said. It eventually got better as the story progressed but she was the weak link in the story for me, even as much as I did only want her to be with Owen. Especially, because Owen came out of his shell and left behind his 'gentleman' persona.
Even with minor issues with the story, this was very well done. The author is definitely on my watch list now and I cannot wait to go back and read more from this author and the other characters that played a pivotal part in the story. (
