"New York Times bestselling author, comedian, actress, and producer Phoebe Robinson is back with a new essay collection that is equal parts thoughtful, hilarious, and sharp about human connection, race, hair, travel, dating, Black excellence, and more. Written in Phoebe's unforgettable voice and with her unparalleled wit, Robinson's latest collection, laced with spot-on pop culture references, takes on a wide range of topics. From the values she learned from her parents (including, but not limited to, advice on not bringing outside germs onto your clean bed) to her and her boyfriend, lovingly known as British Baekoff, deciding to have a child-free union, to the way the Black Lives Matter movement took center stage in America, and, finally, the continual struggle to love her 4C hair, each essay is packed with humor and humanity. By turns insightful, laugh-out-loud funny, and heartfelt, Please Don't Sit On My Bed In Your Outside Clothes is not only a brilliant look at our current cultural moment, but a collection that will stay with you for years to come"--… (más)

More essays by Phoebe -- what could be better? Stories about her work, her life with Bae during lockdown, house rules she learned as a child. All are told in a very funny way. I love her writing. ( )

Great memoir in essays, and it was such a fun listen as read by the author. I most appreciated hearing about her not wanting children as well as her boss advice. ( )

I love Phoebe Robinson. She's hilarious, honest and I like the way she thinks. Her essays run the gamut from pure entertainment to deep, thought provoking sentimentality. I wish her and British Baekoff all the best! ( )

Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes

I Picked Up This Book Because: Have been curious about this author since her first book. Not sure why I started with the newest one though.

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Audible
Dates Read: 1/4/22 - 1/7/22
Stars: 4
Narrator(s): Phoebe Robinson

The Story:

Writing:It’s like having a conversation with a friend. Very Casual, kicky and funny.
Forward Motion: I think some chapters went on a bit long but I also understand that Ms Robinson had a lot to say on some of her subjects.
Overall Interest: Mostly I was all in. As I mentioned above, some chapters seemed long, meaning I lost interest but only 2 or 3 times over the nine and a half hours we spent together doesn’t seem to be a lot.
Length of Reading Time: Fine.
Re-read-ability: I think once will be enough here..
