Deliciously happy and sassy

I love Emma Hart. Yes, she’s the queen of sass and sarc, but she also writes a romance that makes me feel happy and uplifted once I’m done reading. Her heroines are always unashamedly themselves while her heroes always fall in love with the heroines exactly as they are. And this book is no exception.

This is the third book in Emma Hart’s Bookworm’s Guide series about three friends who own and run a book shop. Each book stands completely alone and while characters from the other books obviously pop up in this one, you really don’t have to have read the other books to enjoy and understand this one.

Saylor is our heroine for this book and she’s definitely the feistiest of the three friends. She’s grumpy, mouthy, a little bit lazy and hella sarcy. And I loved her from her toes to her pink hair. She’s so honest with who she is but she also hides a slightly insecure side, not wanting to let herself get too close to Dylan for fear of being hurt. I just love that she’s a hardcore bookworm but not the shy and quiet stereotype we might expect.

Dylan is equally delicious. Emma Hart paints quite the picture and the British, tea loving, polite, dirty talker appeared quite vividly in my imagination in all his grey sweatpants and topless glory. It wasn’t that he was accepting of Saylor but just that he got her. He knew her better than he knew herself at some points, and that is everything for me.

Dylan and Saylor’s story is a bit of a slow burn friends to lovers, although both know how they feel from the get go. I loved that we really see the pair’s relationship growing into something more and when they finally cross that line, it’s explosively delicious. I do wish we could have had a bit more sexual shenanigans throughout the book as Ms Hart, Dylan and Saylor did it so very well. *Fans self*

Like all of Emma’s books, her writing style sparkles with her personality. It’s witty, hilarious and so sassy. Her characters say the things - to themselves and each other - that most of us can only wish we had the wit and nerves to say. And the way that the friends group speak and interact with each other is just pure friendship goals.

And don’t get me started on the old people goals that are the residents of the town’s old folks home. That gang have much more of a life than I’ll ever have!

This is another winner from Ms Hart. I loved her characters, their interactions, the sexiness and the love - but most of all, I loved the deliciously happy feeling that the book, as a whole, gave me. A recommended read. ( )
