Business. Nonfiction. HTML:

What distinguishes great leaders? Exceptional leaders capture passion. They lead for real: from the heart, smart and focused on the future, and with a commitment to being their very best.
As Annie McKee and Richard Boyatzis have shown in their bestselling books Primal Leadership and Resonant Leadership, they create resonance with others. Through resonance, leaders become attuned to the needs and dreams of people they lead. They create conditions where people can excel. They sustain their effectiveness through renewal.
McKee, Boyatzis, and Frances Johnston share vivid, real-life stories illuminating how people can develop emotional intelligence, build resonance, and renew themselves. Reflecting twenty years of longitudinal research and practical wisdom with executives and leaders around the world, this new book is organized around a core of experience-tested exercises. These tools help you articulate your strengths and values, craft a plan for intentional change, and create resonance with others.
Practical and inspiring, Becoming a Resonant Leader is your hands-on guide to developing emotional intelligence, renewing and sustaining yourself and your relationships, and taking your leadership to a whole new level. This book is ideal for anyone seeking personal and professional development and for consultants, coaches, teachers, and faculty to use with their clients or students.

This was an audio book and several of the CDs were having problems. The book encouages leaders to know themselves. A number of exercises are included in the book to help the reader think about theeir past, their hope, their charcteristics, and personality. ( )

This book discusses leadership throughout it's entire spectrum - from "Becoming the leader you most want to be" to "Seeing your dream - Building an Energizing Personal Vision" to "Igniting resonance - Creating Effectiveness in teams, Organizations, and communities." This book also comes with a list of leadership "Exercises" that direct you to a specific page in the book.

Recommended for helping people gain a sense of steps they should take to develop their leadership.

80% of this book is about being internally resonant so that you can resonate with others and help a team resonate. It's full of exercises to promote self-realization in a range of dimensions. As a book targeted to executives, it presumes a high level of self-awareness such that exercises don't require a lot of explanation. If I hadn't already read a lot in this genre, I'd probably have found it a very thorough and useful process. But I have read a lot in this genre and didn't find much new - for me. For someone who hasn't inquired much of their self and who wants to be a better leader, this is probably a practical start. ( )

The premise? If you don't build cycles of rest and renewal into your life you can't sustain effective leadership.

Lots of spiffy charts with arrows and boxes and dotted lines and things. Lots of spiffy end-notes. Spiffy, spiffy, spiffy. Of course, Stephen Covey was telling us to "Sharpen the Saw" 20 years ago but that's an old hat now, isn't it? $30 C for an obvious, old and obviously old concept in a spiffy new package.

Sigh. ( )
