This is a book full of short stories that I have read over time rather than in one sitting. Although it would be easy to do, I didn't find reading them in page order made any more sense than just thumbing through and landing on a story to read. I have enjoyed reading the author's stories and reflections even though I have found that I don't relate with them. Nice to get an honest peek into someone's reflections on life and love.Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. *I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*Roger Rosenblatt's Cold Moon is subtitled On Life, Love, and Responsibility. That subtitle accurately sums up the collection of short essays, random thoughts, and quotes from other sources. Rosenblatt seeks to share with us his thoughts on how to give our lives value, and on the power of love and community. Some of the pieces in the book really touched me and resonated with me. But the overall structure made it difficult to appreciate the author's points. Reading it was like watching a movie with too many fast cuts in the editing process. My mind never had a chance to grasp one thought before moving on to something that was often quite different. It's not my kind of writing style, but the overall theme and purpose is what we need in the world right now. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Although this small book relating the author's life lessons had moments where a sentence or paragraph spoke to me, in general the format of the book did not lead me to appreciate it's sentiments. I agree with the author we need to take responsibility for each other, to love more, and to appreciate our lives, but the scattering of different stories often did not appeal to me or even make sense. Obviously others feel more connected to this book than I. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I loved this small book of soul searching essays by a very talented writer, Roger Rosenblatt. Basically, he sorts the impact we each have on one another and how we each choose to express and embrace the love that is offered to us. As you read, you get to know how the author views parts of his childhood and how he assesses his role as parent, writer and husband. It is these glimpses into the writer's life that make this book fascinating. It is also his ability to create unique images that capture the imagination that make this book so special. It reminded me of the book, "Gift from the Sea". The most poignant moments in the book are when he reflects on Amy, the daughter who died at the age of 38. I was so moved I googled this and found that he had written a specific book about his response to this sudden tragedy which I plan to read. It is always wonderful to discover a new author, especially one that is gifted and a deep thinker! I highly recommend this book. Like Rosenblatt, I am in my seventies - frequently looking back on life. Unlike Rosenblatt, I have lived very different experiences. We can both agree that love and responsibility for others are key factors for how well we have lived in and impacted our world. However, I have a hard time relating to some of what he writes. We are all different. What I did enjoy was his playing with words and occasional surprising and scattered observations. It's a small book and well worth taking a thoughtful look. Old age unwittingly leaks wisdom. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"The Cold Moon occurs in late December, auguring the arrival of the winter sol stice. Approaching the winter solstice of his own life, Roger Rosenblatt offers a book dedicated to the three most important lessons he has learned over his many years: an appreciation of being alive, a recognition of the gift and power of love, and the necessity of excercising responsibility toward one another. Rosenblatt's poetic reflections on these vital life lessons offer a tonic for these perilous and fearful times, and attest to the value of our very existence. Cold Moon: a book to offer purpose, to focus the attention on life's essentials, and to lift the spirit"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
