"Sitting at a crossroad of culinary influences, Lebanese cuisine is one of the world's healthiest. It's made vibrant with spices, tang yogurt and citrus, and herbs like mint, cilantro, and parsley. Vegetable-forward, it makes liberal use of grains like basmati rice and bulgur, and it allows the natural flavor of ingredients like fresh fish, simple prepared, shine."--Page 4 of cover. Lebanese cuisine dates back thousands of years and relies on fresh, seasonal produce and fragrant spices. This cookbook specifically addresses the author’s family experiences with food and family. Like most cultures, cooking seems to be the center of family gatherings, rendering memories of traditions to be passed on for generations.
Similar to most cookbooks this is organized in the traditional fashion starting with necessary pantry items. Each chapter follows the easy pattern of breakfast, salads and separating seafood, meat and vegetable dishes. There is a chapter in the basics and menus for entertaining. The glossary of Arabic terms is also helpful for those not familiar with these authentic terms.
This is a great cookbook for those interested in creating homemade Lebanese meals. I would recommend this book for cooks who have an understanding of utilizing specialty ingredients. The recipes look simple to prepare but may include ingredients not considered a staple in the typical American pantry. This is a great way to expand your palate while adding healthy meals to your dinner table.
