Emma's family are in trade but are now wealthy and they want her to marry well but her prospects are diminishing. After another bout of her mother grilling her about eligible lords she goes for a walk only to wake up in Sir Robert Gascoyne's house after he runs her down. He has to marry her or ruin her reputation but he fears the curse on his family that he believes is why his first wife died. Now he's trying to resist Emma while Emma is trying to resist her mother's insistence that she make herself less than she should be. Meanwhile Sir Robert finds the real her more interesting than many women he has met and he wants honesty. There are issues to overcome and problems to resolve but she is capable and fearless and fun.
I really enjoyed this one, the characters were fun and I enjoyed the read. ( )
