Good Girl. Obedient Wife. Porn Slave. Deep Throat Was Only The Beginning… Linda Boreman was just twenty-one when she met Chuck Traynor, the man who would change her life. Less than two years later, the girl who wouldn't let her high school dates get past first base was catapulted to fame she could never have imagined in her wildest dreams-or worst nightmares. Linda Boreman of Yonkers, New York, had become Linda Lovelace, international adult film superstar. The unprecedented success of Deep Throat made porn popular with the mainstream and made Lovelace a household name. But nobody, from the A-list celebrities who touted the movie to the audiences that lined up to see it, knew the truth about what went on behind the scenes. Enslaved by the man who would eventually force her into marriage so that he could control her completely, Linda was beaten savagely with regularity, hypnotized, and raped. She was threatened with disfigurement and death. She was terrorized into prostitution at gun and knifepoint. She was forced to perform unspeakable perversions on film. She made Deep Throat under unimaginable duress. Years later, Linda would come out of hiding to relate her side of the story-a modern horror tale of humiliation, betrayal, and violence that would rock the porn industry and put its teller in fear for her life...… (más)

I really have mixed feelings about this book. She admits that her first two books were all lies designed to make the books sell. So where does that leave the reader of this one? Hard to figure out. If what she says happened is true then why did she not go after and sue Chuck Trainer and David Winters. A lot of complaining and blaming other people for her poor choices. ( )

OMG! This book is not for the faint of heart that's for sure, it makes 50 shades look like Beatrix Potter! It's raw, graphic and so filthy you'll need a shower after reading it but for all you freaks out there (in practice or in fantasy)...this one's for you. I couldn't put it down and finished in one setting. It's a lot like a gruesome, car crash - it's horrifying to look at yet you can't take your eyes away. I give this book five-stars because I'll be the first to admit that I loved it. But I will add that I don't for one second believe that Linda Lovelace was the helpless, voiceless victim she tries to claim. Give me a break! I think she was broke as a joke because she wasn't educated enough to negotiate a contract back when she was making adult films she tried to sell her story in book form. At this point I think she's come out with several books already, and they're all complete contradictions of Ordeal but I suppose she had to come up with some new and interesting material to keep those books selling. That's my guess anyway. I was a little put off how she dedicated the book to her son, that seemed odd to me and almost implied that he would be reading the book one day which is absolutely horrific! Anyway, Linda Lovelace passed away in a car accident several years ago so may she Rest In Peace.

Ordeal is definitely worth the read. It's a short, quick read, but don't expect the typical memoir because this book is certainly XXX Rated! ( )

Brixton recommends this book for: People who are able to deceive themselves into believing that women in "sex" industries are there because they enjoy it and/or are just putting themselves through med school; however, I suspect such people will unfortunately disbelieve what is written in this book to the exact same degree to which their personal desires are invested in continuing to use/support "sex" industries. In other words, I recommend this book to the depths of futility.

If for no other reason than that the reviews of this book on goodreads seem to me to be noticeably lacking in thoughtfulness, I will likely write a review of it myself at some point. In the meantime, if one is looking for more information about this book, I recommend reading the reviews on amazon, many of which are quite good:
