This is a silly romance about miscommunication and misunderstanding. Lady Anthea has a secret identity as Lady X who writes a gossip and editorial newspaper column. She is being courted by two men, each with nefarious reasons and then there’s the Earl of Streatham, who has a secret identity as government agent, and is investigating the two of them. Of course, George falls for Anthea and realizes she’s Lady X and her life is in danger and realizes what her suitors are actually doing.

When a bluestocking is suddenly being courted by two Earls who are talking about marriage you know there must be something going on. One Earl is a slimy, secretive troublemaker who must be wanting to use her somehow. The other is a blubbering fool who needs money and would stoop the thievery to get it.
Along comes a third Earl - Stratham who is actually more interested in the other 2 Earl that Lady Althea. While working undercover, he quickly develops feeling for Althea and must protect her from the danger she doesn't even know she is getting involved in.
Gemma Blackwood does a great job of writing a smart, independent woman who doesn't need a man to protect her but would like one to stand beside her and support her secret career as a journalist in the newspaper.
