Heroine Charis Radcliffe (who is 22) is worried about her 19-year-old sister Jane. Jane was at university and took a holiday job at a hotel in Cornwall during Easter vacation and she got friendly with some young people who introduced her to a religious sect called The New Brotherhood. Instead of going back to university, Jane went with these people to their headquarters in Bristol, and apart from one letter Charis hasn't heard from Jane since. Charis is worried that Jane is being held against her will, or that she's being brainwashed by the Brotherhood. Charis thinks the Brotherhood may be holding Jane because Jane (and Charis) are due to come into a lot of money from an inheritance from their parents, who passed away, soon. Charis has tried to enter the Brotherhood's headquarters (a big old house on the outskirts of town) to enquire about Jane but they wouldn't let her in since Charis is a non-believer. Charis is getting desperate and worried about her sister so she hires hero-Rafe Hendrix (34) to help her out. Rafe was in the Army but he isn't any more due to a leg injury and he now walks with a limp. Rafe searches for some info on The New Brotherhood and finds out that they have about four different communes (some with high walls around them) and Jane could be at any one of them by now. So Charis and Rafe pack their bags and equipment and go looking for Jane.

I really enjoyed this book. This was an unusual and strange storyline for a Harlequin Presents. Charis was a good heroine...she was naïve at times, but also gutsy, like when she jumped on the bad guy that went after Rafe. Rafe was sometimes a bit overbearing and demanding, but then, so are most HP heroes. This story didn't focus as much on the romance but it did have some nice moments, like when Charis persuaded Rafe to go to the funfair and ride some rides.

This was a fun vintage read by Sally Wentworth from the 80's. ( )
