Thoughts: This book did a decent job of wrapping up the series but parts were a bit boring. The story is about Evelyn gathering allies to fight the evil magical group that kidnapped her earlier in the series and about her return journey to her home island to regain her throne. It was very politically driven, there wasn’t nearly as much adventure. There really weren’t any steampunk elements in this book either. The two things I really loved about this series (steampunk elements and adventure) were pretty much absent.
However, the book was well written and easy to read. Things are well tied up and I enjoyed how everything concluded. I enjoy the characters here as well and how supportive they are. I also enjoyed watching Evelyn gain her powers and learn how to control them. I plan on checking out some of Laurel’s other series. She did a great job with this trilogy and I enjoy her writing style.
My Summary (4/5): Overall I enjoyed this series a lot. The first two books had excellent adventure and steampunk elements, but this final book focused a lot more on politics and magic. I enjoyed how everything wrapped up and the book was fun and easy to read. I definitely plan on checking out some other series by Laurel. I would recommend this series if you are looking for a fun, light, adventure fantasy series with some steampunk elements. ( )
