I wasn't sure if I was going to like it when I started reading it but I got into it when I was learning more about when some of the immortals met. It also explained about Alik's loss of his love, the reason for why others are the way they are, and we learn about different immortal of all kinds. I also learned more about the couple from the first 3 books ( ) This one is an interesting instalment to the series at hand. Less of an addition focusing on one particular couple and more of what felt like almost a companion novel, assisting and added extra information where needed. This originally starts up somewhere around 1500 BC and different characters here get to play the narrator each adding their own hints and bringing something fresh and original to the ongoing narrative. When this first started I did think this was going to focus more on matters of the flesh and while that's not an issue at all I was pleased when it became apparent that this instalment actually played a bigger part in the proceedings. This was surprisingly emotive and we get to witness first hand the early cementing of bonds and loyalties as the foundation laid in the past explain the current friendships and hierarchy that has been arrived at in the present day. This one fills in a lot of blanks and explains more of the origins of these fascinating immortals as we get to almost take a time capsule from past to present. super interesting and slightly different from what we have experienced so far here. yet again this is one I enjoyed immensely but it obviously does need to be read in order. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Elder Bonds (Immortal Curse #4).
