Angus MacKay, leader of the Dragon Knights, failed his brothers and his clan upon the death of his sister. Now he must fight the darkness of despair tempting his soul. Back on Scottish soil, he comes face to face with Deirdre who can wield a sword as mightily as his warriors, and he takes her captive. Yet, with each passing day, the fire dragon inside him roars to claim the one woman fate has destined for him. Famed mystery writer, Deirdre Flanagan, is unprepared for the next chapter in her life. On a vacation to Scotland, she steps through the mists and enters into a skirmish alongside a Highlander. However, the fight has only begun, and now she must battle Angus as well as evil in order to claim the love of this Dragon Knight. Angus MacKay is returning from France to Scotland after participating in a tournament. He’s weary from self-hatred and weighed down by guilt over the death of his sister, but he’s determined to fight an evil druid and free his homeland from the druid’s tyranny.
Deirdre is a kickass woman, probably the strongest of the heroines so far in the series. Angus was just as hardheaded as his brothers, which I liked. His sense of responsibility is both a curse and his redemption. Their love was a beautiful thing.
As always, I enjoyed the side characters. I would love spin-off stories with Cormac Murray as well as Robert Sinclair, and it’s awesome that Ms. Morgan has already written stories for Conn and the other Fenian warriors. The Fianna—a new group of warriors loyal to the Fae—were the perfect help that Angus and Deirdre needed on their quest.
Adam and Meggie’s story is up next, and this is the one I’ve been dying to read since I started this series.
Readers who enjoy time travel Scottish/Irish romance, pick up Dragon Knight’s Shield. You won’t regret it.
