I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

I think that this might be my favourite book in the series. Probably because the two leads have so much in common and spend so much of the book together talking, bantering and doing the thing(s) that they love.

I felt that this book was very much about being oneself and not settling for what is expected of you. Felicity started off feeling like she had to hide her interests and what she wanted in the hope of securing the right match. And as the story progressed was able to have more opportunities to be herself. Mainly when she was with Giles, and in front of others towards the end of the book.

The fact Felicity was able to be herself, in a time and society where it was frowned upon, with Giles I thought was adorable. Throughout the book Felicity repeats the fact that she feels like herself and thanks Giles for allowing her to be and not for judging her for being herself. Giles also repeats that he wants her to be happy and just be herself. He doesn’t bat an eye at her being a mechanic or wearing trousers, but he is surprised that she’s a duke’s sister and therefore out of his league.

The relationship between the two felt pretty organic. There was a bit of insta-attraction, more on Giles’ side than Felicity’s, but it didn’t feel heavy-handed or shoved in your face. The only issue I had was the length of time that the two characters knew each other for. I just feel like it would make more sense if they knew each other for more than fourteen days. I liked that there was deadline for how long they could be in each others lives for, but I would have liked it to have maybe been a bit longer. I felt like the ending was pretty rushed. A lot happened towards the end that was jammed together with little space between them and I would have liked it more if it had been a bit more spaced out.

One of the things that I loved about this book was that the two main characters both didn’t grow up with money but ended up with money in some way. Also, I loved that Giles didn’t have a title or was a member of high society unlike other main characters in the series so far. I thought it was really interesting to have both characters having similar backgrounds of growing up with little money and having to work to live, and then having money and connections (in very different ways). Honestly, I just really loved all the different the parallels between Giles and Felicity.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I really liked the characters and thought this was a really fun read. I don’t think you need to have read the other books in this series if you don’t want to as each book focuses on two different main characters. Some characters do appear from past books but those that are important to the characters and/or plot are obviously explained. Such as Felicity’s brother, who is the male protagonist in the first book in the series. If you have read the other books in the series, or you enjoy historical romance, then I would definitely recommend that you read this book. ( )

This series by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke has been a total joy to read. While the owners of the pub named after them, the 2 dukes are friends to all levels of scoiety, That is how a blacksmith/ carriage maker is able to meet a Duke's sister,
Lady Felicity is the most amazing character I've read in a while, She didn't grow up in society. She grew up with her brother working as a blacksmith. Now that her brother is a Duke, she is trying to fit into society. She wishes to marry well - not for prestige or fortune, but so that she can furhter her charity work to disadvantaged children. Unfortunately, finding a titled husband will force her to give up her one true talent - working on carriages.
When her brother enters his carriage in a race, he brings together his sister Felicity with Giles Langford - the Curricle King. They share so much yet, he lacks the one thing she is looking for - a title.
It is so refreshing to not only read about a female character who has a real talent for a man's profession but is willing to give it up to help disadvantaged children. It is also wonderful to see a hero who can not only accept her talent but celebrate it.

Lady Felicity Sutton is more comfortable working on carriages then she in fancy ballrooms but Felicity has made a promise to herself that she would marry a man who has money to help her start a foundation for homeless children. She and her brother were homeless for many years and she has vowed to save them all no matter if she has to marry a man who she doesn’t love. But she knows she will have to give up her passion for carriages. So she agrees with her brother to let her help with one last race. In doing so she meets Giles Landford know as the Curricle King who is the greatest carriage racer of the age and plans to race in Felicity’s brothers place. Giles and Felicity are told to work together to get her brother’s carriage race worthy. What happens is a attraction that both didn’t see coming and is getting harder and harder to deny.

Felicity is amazing. I love her character so much. She is so caring and intelligent and has an intersecting and unique hobby for the time. I love how much she cares for the poor and homeless children and wants to do everything to help them. Giles is her perfect match. He loves carriages and being a blacksmith as much as she does and wants her to always be herself. He loves her mind and wants her to just be her which most people don’t because women shouldn’t wear trousers and work on carriages. Their romance is so sweet and beautiful. I couldn’t put this book down. I loved Erica’s writing it pulled me in and her characters I just fell in love with them and I can’t wait to read more books in this series and more books by Erica. I have found a new favorite author. ( )
