Maid Anna Bond is accompanying timid Arabella Ashcombe to Jamaica where Arabella will reunite with her wealthy grandfather and assume her proper role in society. A storm wrecks the ship and sole survivor Anna is mistakenly presumed to be Arabella. Before long she's in the deception so deeply she can't find a way out. When another survivor arrives with news that Arabella is also alive, Anna has to decide how to proceed.
As advertised, this is a sweet romance. The love story is slight. Anna finds first mate Brand annoying and overly familiar but when he turns up alive, he suddenly becomes the man of her dreams. I enjoyed the parts of the story involving Anna's deception and life in Jamaica. As this is first in a series, I would be interested in Elnora's story. ( )

This was sweet, if slightly predictable, period piece. Karlis writes well and I'm definitely looking forward to diving into the next book to see where the story leads. The characters are well developed and routed in reality.
