I would have liked many of these short stories and given four stars except that they felt unfinished. Most felt like just the first chapter of a good book. I think short stories should have some kind of conclusion instead of just stopping in the middle of a mystery, or the author should have woven them together sometime so the main character in one becomes a supporting character in the next. ( ) 4Q, 4P (my VOYA codes). I gave this book 4 for quality as it was well-written and easy-to-read. I gave the book a 4 for popularity as I think each of the short stories has elements to them that most teenagers can relate to. The stories feature identity issues, race issues, self-awareness, and teens learning to deal with the culture they live in compared to the culture that surrounds them. This collection of stories feels timeless and would appeal to teens everywhere for its language and culture-transcending issues of humanity and just being a teenager growing up in the world of humans. This is a wonderful book that is written from a Latino perspective. The book is filled with short stories about latino people. This is a great read for Latino students and would be a great read aloud for all students that offers a different perspective.
