This was such a great read really made me stop and think and reflect on my own life. ( )Esta reseña ha sido escrita para Sorteo de miembros LibraryThing. This book was overwhelmingly amazing; it went beyond my expectations of what I expected from this collection of essays and stories. There were so many relatable moments, and others which although I couldn’t relate to, I found interesting, humorous, or that just made me smile. Just from reading either a few essays to the entire collection, it’s so evident that the author put so much care and time into creating this masterpiece they call a book. I recommend this to everyone, whether they’re a fan of reading, essays, or neither. Esta reseña ha sido escrita para Sorteo de miembros LibraryThing. In high school, my English teacher encouraged us to write in the books we read, to underline passages that spoke to us, and to highlight words to look up or place question marks where we had questions. However, the library often frowns at such practice. Luckily, I had my very own copy of this reflective read thanks to the generosity of the author. That said, if you were to pick this book off my shelf and give it a flipbook stye flip, you would see a million and three underlined passages. There are also places where I wrote "This same thing happened to me!" I feel I have a lot in common with the author. We live in a similar geographical location so experience the same degrees of the seasons. We are writers at heart, though she is much more talented. And #1 all time top reason is we both love dogs. So many passages spoke to me. These essays have a good balance of reflective topics. Some are very sad, some are silly (OMG the turkey) and all are very very good. I usually share my copy of books when I have someone who might enjoy it. However, these essays spoke to me so deeply that I can't let this copy go. In the margins are my feelings, thoughts, questions,....reflections. I will shelve this beauty and come back to reflect again after some time to....reflect! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
A collection of essays by novelist J.F. Riordan, Reflections on a Life in Exile is easy to pick up, and hard to put down. By turns deeply spiritual and gently comic, these brief meditations range from the inconveniences of modern life to the shifting nature of grief. Whether it's an unexpected revelation from a trip to the hardware store, a casual encounter with a tow-truck driver, the changing seasons, or a conversation with a store clerk grieving for a dog, J. F. Riordan captures and magnifies the passing beauty of the ordinary and the extraordinary that lingers near the surface of daily life. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
