Cooking & Food. Health & Fitness. Nonfiction. Self Help. HTML:NATIONAL BESTSELLER  By the pioneer of lifestyle medicine, a simple, scientifically program proven to often reverse the progression of the most common and costly chronic diseases and even begin reversing aging at a cellular level! Long rated #1 for Heart Health by U.S. News & World Report, Dr. Ornishs Program is now covered by Medicare when offered virtually at home.
Dean Ornish, M.D., has directed revolutionary research proving, for the first time, that lifestyle changes can often reverseundo!the progression of many of the most common and costly chronic diseases and even begin reversing aging at a cellular level.
Medicare and many insurance companies now cover Dr. Ornishs lifestyle medicine program for reversing chronic disease because it consistently achieves bigger changes in lifestyle, better clinical outcomes, larger cost savings, and greater adherence than have ever been reportedbased on forty years of research published in the leading peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.
Now, in this landmark book, he and Anne Ornish present a simple yet powerful new unifying theory explaining why these same lifestyle changes can reverse so many different chronic diseases and how quickly these benefits occur. They describe what it is, why it works, and how you can do it:
Eat well: a whole foods, plant-based diet naturally low in fat and sugar and high in flavor. The Ornish diet has been rated #1 for Heart Health by U.S. News & World Report for eleven years since 2011.
Move more: moderate exercise such as walking
Stress less: including meditation and gentle yoga practices
Love more: how love and intimacy transform loneliness into healing
With seventy recipes, easy-to-follow meal plans, tips for stocking your kitchen and eating out, recommended exercises, stress-reduction advice, and inspiring patient stories of life-transforming benefitsfor example, several people improved so much after only nine weeks they were able to avoid a heart transplantUndo It! empowers readers with new hope and new choices.

The basic premise is a sound one, THE DIET ASPECT IS GREAT IN MANY RESPECTS, & yet, the info in the book itself could have been put into a book75% smaller, & it looks like an advert for many foods that are simply NOT available in countries other than USA...
No mention of DMSO, pH of the blood, nor of foods that for centuries have been known as useful for basic good health, blood cleansing & thinning et al, nor any mention of pH values...
I have been basically vegetarian since 1968 & most of the book is just padding, & a waste of trees..
No mention the book was made from recycled or bamboo paper!
And, looking at the type set & book layout, the book is designed for old folks &.. a lot of basic Common Sense was shared...(well done for that, as Common Sense does not seem to be very common in 2023, does it!?)…
And, NOTES are a joke or an after thought somehow???... Well, with NOTES, no ENDNOTE indicators on the pages involved are present (as we first read it), thus no indicator that a ENDNOTE actually exists, is there? As we find out later on that ENDNOTES do exist & THEN we have to SEARCH TO find the ENDNOTE lines indicated (most odd, never seen that before)? !
And, just under HALF the book is recipes etc, with the addition of Appendix B as an advert for Food Brands to stock the house with, ...{ which made me feel that it was a PAID COMMERCIAL site}?
So, overall, I found some useful info that could have been shared in 30 pages or so, and the rest of the 506 pages was padding to make the publishers & gullible public happy at the $49.90 Australia$ price tag...

The guru of reversing heart disease (who recently got Medicare and insurance companies to cover his programs) is back, saying that the origin of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and even aging itself can be reversed with the same formula:

(1) Eat well [he continues to be a proponent of low-fat vegan]

(2) Move more [moderate daily exercise]

(3) Stress less [or de-stress more with meditation and other practices]

and

(4) Love more [as it sets in motion a cascade of biochemical reactions that renews the body]. ( )

I am switching over to this diet, since I am concerned about the effect of the American diet on my health. I am hoping that the diet can help undue some of the damage done by eating meat, dairy, etc. While I realize everyone eventually dies of something, I am not interested in diabetes, heart disease, dementia, and stroke. Since others have done this, I can too. I had thought that eating meat was part of the hunter gatherer’s diet but they typically had short lifespans. I have not put a lot of effort into stress management and I believing that I am making a mistake. The pandemic has caused a lot of isolation and this is not beneficial either. Getting older is scary but I hope going vegan will delay my eventual death and debilitation leading up to death. ( )

Well written and interesting. But maybe I've read too many of these types of books. Because they are starting to all look alike. Many ideas are common sense. ( )

I believe in life style medicine, which is what Dr. Ornish offers in this book. I chose it over traditional medical practices whenever I can. I am a life long vegetarian part time vegan now so his diet choices are not far off from my daily diet. I have read his previous books but really enjoyed the way this one was set up with a quick start easy program. It is really so simple and written so clearly. There was a more personal touch feel to this book, with his wife's involvement. It really in complete with exercise suggestions and recipes. I will purchase a copy of this to give to my mother who goes to a Dr. that never tells her to change her lifestyle, he just gives her a new pill. Bravo Dr. Ornish I love how you set this one up.
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy for an honest review ( )
