"A timeless collection of philosophies from renaissance performer and the world's most famous shape-shifter RuPaul, whose sage outlook has created an unprecedented career for more than thirty-five years. GuRu is packed with more than 80 beautiful photographs that illustrate the concept of building the life you want from the outside in and the inside out. As someone who has deconstructed life's hilarious facade, RuPaul has broken "the fourth wall" to expand on the concept of mind, body, and spirit. This unique perspective has allowed RuPaul to break the shackles of self-imposed limitations, but reader beware, this is a daily practice that requires diligence and touchstones to keep you walking in the sunshine of the spirit. Once you're willing to look beyond the identity that was given to you, a hidden world of possibilities will open its doors. Throughout the history of humans on this planet, there've always been shaman, seers, and mediums who are able to interpret both high and low frequencies and remind humans to look beyond the surface for the truth of who we really are. And who we really are is an extension of the power that created the universe (aka: God in drag). FYI: most people are not willing to hear or accept that. That is RuPaul's secret for success, not only in show business, but in all aspects of life, especially in navigating the emotional landmines that inhibit most sweet, sensitive souls." --… (más)

It was a fine book. Nothing wrong with it. I imagine the pictures help. Audiobook was nice to listen to Ru's voice but advice seemed to be random have no flow. ( )

I love RuPaul, and her love of simplistic self-help is part of her charm. But Jesus Christ, she really loves simplistic self-help. Hearing her narrate the audiobook on a road trip passes the time though. ( )

I Picked Up This Book Because: Need a change in pace from what I have been reading.

The Story:

The one and only RuPaul gives some sage advice in signature Ru style. This was a quick listen and I slightly regret not having the pictures that were spoken about but it did not take away from the lessons.

The Random Thoughts:

I love Rupaul but this books jumps all over the place. “Working It” is much better imo, and if you can find it "Lettin' it all hang out" is the best. ( )

I know next to nothing about RuPaul, but I picked this book up and I read their introduction and actually wanted to read it. I flipped through a few pages and saw glamour shots with quotes. After a few more pages, I began to wonder - where is the rest of the book after the hype of the introduction? When I hit the end of the ebook I realized there weren't any self-help tips. I was disappointed and irritated. I got a few good quotes, but not the life-changing insights that were promised. If you are a RuPaul fan then this is the book for you: you will get the wit, the photos and more insight into your hero. If you don't know or care about RuPaul, this is not the book to spend a lot of time on. ( )
