I enjoyed the premise of this book and the twists and turns it took. I did care about the characters, which kept me reading past my bedtime. The time the author took to explore more than just the heroine and the romance, but the repercussions on the social fabric of her life was interesting to follow. I'd read another book by this author. All the twists and turns along with the emotional roller coaster. It's great to read about someone who thought their life was perfect with everything planned out perfectly and have their entire life take a turn for the worst and have to pick up the pieces and put their life together by themselves. It's about overcoming the worst and learning and discovering a new you a better you that you never thought would have existed. It's about living the best life you can. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I read “Forgetting Ophelia” in two days as I could not put it down. Ophe(Lia) finds her world imploding when her husband, Jake, announces that he is leaving her.The story explores what happens in the relationship between her and Jake’s mutual friends, her mother, his parents, his sister, and her teaching position as she tries to figure out how to move forward. This story is well written and rang true emotionally. I highly recommend this book. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I was drawn into Forgetting Ophelia from the first chapter and did not put it down until the last. The great writing excellently captures all of the emotions and turmoil Ophelia (Lia) experiences as she progresses through a downright terrible time. Her husband abruptly and with no explanation leaves her on her thirty-fifth birthday and their fifth anniversary. She later learns the reason and is torn by his actions. You read how her life progresses through her discordant childhood and over a series of life denting events. All the while, Lia grows, adapts and finds herself. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Interview with the Author Where did you get the idea for Forgetting Ophelia? I have a literal "where" answer to this question! The spark of the idea came to me while I was on the 405 freeway stuck in traffic. I was letting my mind wander and thought about what would happen if a woman who imagined her marriage was perfect suddenly had the rug ripped out from under her. What will fans of women's fiction like about Forgetting Ophelia, and what makes the novel stand out in the genre? I believe a lot of women in their thirties find themselves ignoring their own wishes and desires because they're busy making others happy: their partners, children, parents, friends. This story is about Lia embracing what she wants and needs, what's best for her for the first time in her life. The ending presents a launching pad for Lia rather than a neat conclusion. In the story, Lia's husband leaves her out of the blue. Do you think Lia really never saw it coming? I think Lia's in deep denial at the start of this book and only realizes after the fact that she and Jake aren't as perfect as she always told herself they were. The Plan is flawed from the beginning, but she never asks herself if she is happy until everything is taken from her. What do you enjoy reading? Primarily, I love women's fiction, literary fiction, and memoir. But any time spent reading is a good time! Thanks for reading! No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

It was easy to read, and I was interested in finding out what happened to the characters. But at times I felt the character development was unrealistic, or poorly drawn. I was frustrated to find a lot of the early narrative propelled by a main character who refused to communicate. I suppose it allowed the story to continue, but I felt so powerless and frustrated to read about a character who refused to listen or talk to her friends and family.
This is book two in the Friendship & Secrets series. I hadn't read any other books in the series prior to reading this one, but I don't think it affected my enjoyment.
