"William and Mary live in Wales and have been married sixty years with four children and five grandchildren. William is a celebrated surgeon, Mary a devoted wife. Both are strong believers in right and wrong. William and Olivia have been together twenty years and share a house in London, enjoying the theatre and restaurants and playing tennis every week. Only one of these stories can be true - but which one? This is the question that confronts clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin when his father is brutally attacked and left for dead. Summoned to the hospital, Joe discovers a stranger at William's bedside, an elegantly dressed woman, covered in his blood. 'Who are you?' he asks. 'I'm his other wife.'"--Publisher's description.… (más)

Curious plot, not so great, but I enjoyed the writing which kept me on the edge of my seat even without much interest from I'll definitely pick up another by this author. ( )

DNF at 28%. How this got so many high ratings, I'll never know. Dull, full of the most unlikely decisions and events. The main character is irritating and strangely naive given that he's supposed to know human nature and is a forensic psychologist, yet he meanders through the story making ill thought out decisions and acting outraged that things aren't how he wants them to be. Didn't realize this was part of an ongoing series, and it didn't matter - the book reads very well as a stand alone. This is an interesting, but fairly average book. O'Loughlin's dad is attacked, ends up in a coma causing O'Loughlin to meet his dad's "other wife" - a woman he's also been married to for 20 years. This sets up a string of surprises as O'Loughlin investigates, trying to figure out who attacked his dad. It's a standard technique of introducing a new character and implicating him then casting him aside, move on to someone else suspicious.

A fairly quick read that I mostly enjoyed, just nothing to write home about.

This was my first time reading one of Robotham's books featuring Joseph O'Loughlin. Although "The Other Wife" was #9 in the O'Loughlin series, I didn't feel that I was missing out on previous knowledge. I was curious about what had happened to O'Loughlin's wife in previous books, but what I didn't know didn't interfere with my understanding this book. This book can definitely be read as a standalone.

I was riveted by this book. Even though the true nature of the crime wasn't revealed until past the book's halfway mark, the leadup was so well written that I was intrigued the entire time. O'Loughlin is summoned to the hospital, where his father lies in a coma. But who is the woman crying at his father's bedside? As O'Loughlin investigates what happened to his father, he uncovers many things about his father about which he had no clue. And the things he discovers put himself in danger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this well written, gripping novel. ( )
