The imagery is stunning -- detailed drawings that I want to just fall in to. Beautiful. ( ) This book is a cute flip on the the famously dark tale of Little Red Riding Hood. This story begins with the familiar figure of Little Red. Her path is blocked by a giant, menacing wolf. Therefore, I was expecting a tragic ending or dark confrontation with the wolf. While this wolf blocks Little Red's path, we see other animals containing red objects walking past them. We eventually find out that Little Red's grandmother had planned a surprise party for her and the wolf was invited along with all of the other animals previously seen carrying decorations. It felt almost surreal to have such a happy ending to this story, which is laughable now when considering that Little Red Riding Hood is a story typically told to young children. My favorite part of this book was the intentional color palette. Everything was drawn and colored in black & white, except for Little Red's clothes and all the decorations brought by the other animals to the grandmothers house. I really love it when illustrations use color as an attention grabber to help tell and navigate a story. In this book, the color red is mostly used to foreshadow an ending that most readers will not expect. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
