This is a story about an ex-counterintelligence operative who uses his smarts, his training and his physical skills as if they were superpowers. Zeke Traynor is a thirty-eight year old with an almost-eidetic memory that gives him a rather unique view of the world and the confidence to act on his instincts. Although a capable operative, Zeke's attitude is pretty well summed up in his tagline, "I amuse myself". In this story, Zeke is hired to provide protection for a clever counterfeiter who has escaped a Mexican cartel. The counterfeiter, Alberto Cruz, was in the custody of the Atlanta Secret Service, but was duplicit and manipulative in his dealings with them. Zeke and his British partner Clive (who oddly resembles 'Mad Jack' Churchill) take over Cruz's protection. Confronting the assassin sent to retrieve the cartel's stolen counterfeit printer plates is just the beginning of Zeke's challenges while protecting Cruz. As the story unfolds Zeke realizes that if there's to be any peace, Jefe, the head of the cartel must also be neutralized.… (más)

I am so picky when it comes to thrillers and mysteries. I was scared to read this because I didn't want to not like it. I desperately wanted this book to hook me.... and it DID! I can't wait to dive into the next two books of this series, Bluegrass and Crimson and Ardmore Green!

I admit, at first, I had a hard time following Jeff's writing style. It didn't take me long to get into the groove with his style. This book was a lot more complex than I had anticipated. I found myself rereading a few parts because I felt like I was missing something... Please note that my missing something wasn't because of the writing; it was totally me for not paying enough attention while I was reading.

This story took me on some twists and turns that I did and didn't see coming. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see where the story took me by the time I reached the end.

Mr. Siebold is defenitely an author to keep your eye out for. And he has won me over. For those who like mystery and thrillers, definitely give this book a chance! ( )
