Spoiler Free! **I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.** I was drawn to this book because of the forbidden love aspect: Preacher and a Stripper in love? Colour me intrigued. I also really loved Nelson's bold approach to her characters' stories when I read [b:Bad Reputation|25495640|Bad Reputation (Bad Reputation, #1)|K.B. Nelson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1431660041s/25495640.jpg|45271032] last year and so I was excited to give this one a chance. This book wasn't really what I was expecting but that is ok! I didn't really know that it would be more of a suspense novel so that threw me for a while; though I think it was one of my favourite aspects of the story. The suspense and mystery made it more exciting than your everyday second chance contemporary romance. But, at the same time, I was kinda expecting a more romantic plot than we got so it caused me to rate it slightly lower. Faith and Noah's story has so many twists and turns that make it so heartbreaking. I really felt for these characters because they got a crappy hand in life. It's a tad unrealistic as it leans more towards the soap opera side of dramatic but it gives this story a unique flare. I think this story will appeal to people who want a story that is so different from the other second chance romances out there. It's more of a suspense novel that has events that occur because these two people reunite; rather than a second chance romance with a minor suspense plot. (I hope that makes sense). And if you can't stomach darker stories or non-traditional relationships, then you should probably avoid this one. Faithless is much, much more than the blurb suggests, the characters are incredibly broken, there's some twists that will shock you, and there's a third character that really should be considered a major character and not secondary. There's also a lot of religious talk, some paranormal, and of course, forbidden romance. While I enjoyed the story, some of the turns took it a bit too far for me to stay completely invested in the story of Faith and her return home.
Told from alternating POV's, but mostly Faith's, we jump into the present time as Faith returns home after leaving a bad situation. However, home is much different than what she remembers and everything she expected to return to is different. As she tries to deal with the changes, her ever present feelings for Noah, and helping him face his demons she looks back on the past ten years of her life, from the moment she met Noah, Luke, and their relationship until the day she ran away. I loved the idea of forbidden romance between a stripper and a preacher, however this was much more than romance. I came out of it thinking quite a lot about good versus evil and acceptance. Some of the scenes completely messed with my head, because I didn't expect evil to play such a huge part in this book. On top of that, the romance that is there is very taboo, it's enough to be uncomfortable, but didn't take away from the book for me in the end. The characters are untrustworthy, but I found myself really feeling for Faith and her life's general lack of direction.
I think Faithless is the kind of book you have to read to be able to judge, it's different than I expected it to be, but enjoyable still. ( )
