A really good story with some great covers, but unfortunately the art is pretty bad for most of it. ( ) Fuck me I guess. Damn that hits hard and fast. It's amazing how much resonance you can get when queer people get to tell our own stories. Grace does an incredible job navigating the complexity of coming out later in life and just, like, trying to figure out everything all over again in your 30s. It can be tough, and this team does a great job showing one story in that space. Iceman's coming out was a little out of left field (yes, all his female relationships have failed, sure) but Grace attempts to move this character from wise cracking superhero to a more rounded character with feelings especially in his struggle to navigate coming out to his friends and family...but still remaining a bit of a joker. Grace keeps it pretty light and breezy in the first 5 issues - I enjoyed reading this and look forward to vol 2. I love that Marvel published a title with a gay lead character, but I wish it wasn't this character and that the execution of the story wasn't so awkward. Bobby Drake has always been one of my least favorite X-Men, dating back to his initial appearances when he was just a snowman in boots. The only qualities I ever remember him exhibiting are snark and stupidity. His realization about his true self and the drama it causes in his personal life raises a little sympathy in me but does not make him less snarky or any smarter. And I hate that this was all kicked off by his younger time-traveling self, because I really dislike that Marvel seems to be committed to keeping the young X-Brats around forever. Are there any Marvel characters left that do not have doppelgangers or another person with whom they share their code name? There are a few worthwhile scenes buried in between slugfests and melodramatic emoting, but the whole package comes off as ham-handed superhero fare. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Bobby Drake has been in the super hero game longer than most - but what has he left behind besides a few good one-liners and a string of failed relationships? And now a younger version of himself has emerged from the timestream - and he's more put together than Bobby ever was. He grapples with his gay identity and his family and how to build a life and legacy he can be proud of...and become the best Iceman he can be! But, whether it's seeking his ex-girlfriend Kitty Pryde's advice on meeting guys, or delivering his latest news to his folks, it won't be easy - and that's before a gang of revenge-seeking Purifiers comes calling! And, still learning to be comfortable in his own skin, Bobby will meet someone who's perhaps too comfortable in his - the son of Wolverine himself, Daken!
