This book has an interesting concept, although I think it got a bit muddled at times. It felt like the problem behind the new butterflies being confused was never fully explained, although I suppose there's room to explore that further in the series. That being said, the book was mostly simple and clear in its language so that young readers can do well with it on their own; I can see this being particularly appealing to those who have graduated from early readers but aren't yet ready to tackled the 200- to 300-page tomes that seem to keep being churned out in children's literature.
There are some black-and-white pencil drawings scattered throughout, which are a nice addition but not necessarily strictly necessary. I almost feel like the illustrations should have been in color being as the butterflies all had distinct color combinations/patterns and that was kind of a plot point.
Speaking of plot points, the character development between Addie and her younger sister Clara was nice to see, especially as many children deal with sibling issues (e.g., feeling left out, feeling like their sibling is the favorite, etc.) ( )
