I generally don't like first person narrative, but this would appear to be an exception. While ostensibly a reverse harem, this is not really done in words in this book. Its primarily a mental exercise. Seems unfinished as would be the case since there appears to be a sequel - not a "related" book. ( )

Review: Polar Destiny by Skye MacKinnon. 04/18/2018

When I started this book I didn’t know exactly what age group it was for. At first I thought maybe a children’s book because it read and was wrote with no descriptive words and it even felt like it was narrated by a child. I read on and than said no I think it’s for young adults because the story was heading onto another path. After some fifty pages it startled me because the contents of the story took another turn towards graphic sex scenes. I though to myself…Oh My God this author really drew me in at first but she came across many descriptive words from that point on until the end.

I realize it was fantasy fiction and I know how to skip through a graphic sex scene but not 3/4th’s of the book. Plus, it was poorly written and I had a hard time with a polar bear in bed with Isla than turning a human male and then back again. Isla was being raised by her uncle because her parents died in what they call the big drowning. When she turned twenty her Uncle had arranged a marriage for her. Isla fled and had no plans of where she was going. The land in Scotland was scarce because a massive flood spread over the land and only left Islands for people to live on. The weather was getting colder so a lot of the water was freezing over. Crossing the ice is the path Isla took but it was still dangerous in places that were thin. After a while she sees an Island but she was cold and didn’t think she could make it, Isla passes out on the ice…

When she woke she was covered by furs for warmth but surprisingly she was naked. Then she met the four hulking men who found her. The story rushes to the point where she finds out that they are human shifters. They could be human for a short period of time and had no choice but to shift back to their bear forms because it was winter and bears hibernate in the winter. Some how, they captivated her with their charm. I thought from that point on that the book was unreasonably awkward and disappointing ( )
