This was a really great romance between Jessie, a student of French who loves translating old documents, and Callum, the boy she meets in her teens and introduces to music, who grows up to be a world-famous composer. I loved their first meeting when they were young, and also the tension when they meet again as adults after a separation. This book had a great mix of tension and romance, with Callum facing writer’s block, and having lived a playboy’s life that Jessie wants no part of. Her work in France and the French setting was also nice.

The reveals that came later in the book were well done and didn’t feel manufactured. This was a romance that just worked really really well. I loved the way it slowly unfolded and watching the two of them struggle to find their happy ending.

Love without words

Such a great story of love lost and found and then fought for. Callen was a young man with a secret that was painful for him and Jessie was the only one who could save him. In the end they saved each other. ( )

I was intrigued with More Than Words after reading the synopsis and it didn’t disappoint! I became immersed in Callen and Jessie’s world with all their pain, joy, hopes and fears. I loved the author’s use of dual perspectives as it allowed the reader to get a deeper insight into both of these complex characters, getting to know them more intimately and it was a wonderful vehicle for weaving such a brilliant, emotional, sweet and romantic tale.

Jessie and Callen’s story had all the elements that I love in a book, well developed characters that undergo a heartfelt and at times rocky journey over a period of time, with deep connections, missed opportunities, insecurities, heartbreak, longing, passion and redemption. The romantic locations and side narrative of the long lost historical diary interwoven into Callen and Jessie’s story also enriched the magic of this modern fairytale. I thoroughly enjoyed More Than Words and highly recommend it and look forward to reading more of Mia Sheridan.

I was sent this book by the publisher. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

“You were my prince and my pirate, my savior and my friend.”

I loved the beginning of this story in which we see how Jessica and Callen meet. I was preparing myself for a very intense read based on that beginning. However; I was expecting this to be way more emotional than it ended up being. Do not get me wrong, it was still good, but just not what I was expecting. I would have liked the story to follow more of the issues that were discussed in the beginning. I did not find the twist towards the end to be realistic. It does address something that is not often seen in books I read, but it just did not bring that emotional pull I wanted.

We find our characters meeting at a very young age, both dealing with troubles. Then Callen disappears. Years later a chance encounter has Callen and Jessica meeting in France. I actually thought it was refreshing that the characters did not get together at first sight, and that we were given a little bit of each story before we jumped right into them being together.

If you enjoy history and romance, you will love this. Jessica is working on translating documents that may or may not be related to Joan of Arc. I personally could have done with less information around her job. I just was not invested into this aspect of the story and found myself skimming these sections to get back to Callen’s live and their relationship.

Overall, this was a great read just not anything that blew me away. ( )
