Christmas Wishes #4
Stellar story – as expected – this author always delivers thought provoking well-crafted plots with unforgettable characters. There is usually something educational along with sizzling romance and this book threw in Christmas wishes being fulfilled. Here I should probably mention that I could not put this book down and read through till 2:30am – I had to finish it…just in case you were wondering.
Angel Matthews has kept a journal for decades and addresses it to a man who is known to be a jolly granter of wishes. Since childhood she has dealt with an issue that was exacerbated on Christmas Eve one year ago. After hitting rock bottom she spent time looking and working on the issue and how she wants to achieve in the future. With this in mind she has decided to spend Christmas alone to ponder process and plan for the positive future she deserves. So, off she heads to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, a tidal island off the northeast coast of England. It is a tiny place with few inhabitants but frequent pilgrims and the road to it is completely covered when the tide is in. (You might enjoy googling – fascinating reading on Wikipedia).
Anyway, off she goes and though wanting to depend on nobody but herself finds herself rescued by Halvar Carlson. Hal is the father of two children, lives in Lindisfarne, has a b*tch of an almost ex-wife and a mean-spirited boss that is increasing the difficulties in his life. Well, Hal and Angel are drawn to one another but with the distance between their abodes see that getting together would most likely be little more than a holiday fling. But, what was supposed to be a bit of fun ends up being a healing interlude that may just provide them with the HEA they both so richly deserve.
What I Liked:
* The story – all of it
*Hal’s love for his children and well…him…what a man!
*Angel’s openness and willingness to state what she wants and reach out for it
*Getting to look over Angel’s shoulder as she writes in her personal journal
*The information about Lindisfarne – now on my bucket list
*The development of the relationship between Hal and Angel and their willingness to communicate openly and honestly with one another
*Hal’s children – Jamie and Brenna
*The honesty with which divorce and its impact on all family members was portrayed
*Well…let me see…what did I not like?
What I didn’t like:
*Rebecca – the ex-wife of Hal
*Charles – Hal’s boss
*…and that is about it…except that on the last page I really wished there were more pages to read…
Did I mention I loved this book? Even if I did…it is worth saying again :)
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
