Apart from patiently going through the evidence available, Nowakowski makes a point of observing that the arms and armour used in the Ordensstaat were mostly typical of Western and Central Europe, and in particular very similar to those used in contemporary Poland. The few exceptions - notably small pavises for use on horseback - were due to the adoption of Baltic or Russian styles.
The extensive collection of plates includes both reproductions of much of the pictorial evidence and reconstructions of what warriors from different times may have looked like.
The book is warmly recommended to anyone interested in the subject.
