Blood on the Stars is a classic who-done-it caper, starting out with a jewelry robbery and ending with a roomful of suspects and Mike Shayne laying out who actually pulled off the caper and why and how.

You don't see this type of classic mystery too often in the Mike Shayne series which generally includes some gambling halls, fights with hoods, and dazzling dames. Of course, there are a few hoods here and
someone close to Shayne gets hurt, but for the most part this is a
who-done-it caper.

It is, as most of the Shayne series, a good read and hard to put down. It lacks a bit of the action and hardboiled intensity of the best of the Mike Shayne series, but nothing too shabby about this one. Expect to learn a bit about rubies that you didn't know before. ( )
