Independent Reading Level: Grades 1-3 Within this book, the author talks about a mermaid who eats different ocean animals. I liked reading this book mainly due to the illustrations. Within each page, the illustrator creates vivid images that helps the reader imagine what the mermaid is doing with each animal. For example when the mermaid is eating the eel, the illustrator showed the mermaid being in distress due to the fact that the eel shocked her. The next reason that I enjoyed reading this book was because of the plot. Throughout the story, the mermaid is eating different ocean animals. In the end of the book, there is a plot twister and the mermaid is seen as a teacher who was just pretending to eat the ocean animals. This kind of plot would be enjoyable for students who are still at the beginning stages of learning to read. The last reason that I enjoyed reading this book was because of the characters. In the book, the main character was a mermaid and the supporting characters were different ocean animals. Using a mermaid would appeal to a young audience (since a lot of young children enjoy seeing mermaids). In the end, the main idea of this story was to support children in using their imagination to learn a new subject. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
