Clues turn personal as Meg and Hawk try to figure out clues to find the women and prevent their death but beating the clock takes clever puzzle skills and historical knowledge of the DC area.

Fast moving thriller and suspenseful action as they run from place to place trying to save the women in jeopardy. Of course, we all want to see Meg and Hawk successfully save the women, but just following Hawk is entertaining. Such a professional and such a good boy! Ok, some kudos to the firefighter and the journalist that help with the puzzles and life saving. This book cemented them both on the good side. ( )

Before it's too Late is the sequel to Lone Wolf, which I haven't read, but that's in my Want-To-Read-List. So, when I got the chance to read this book did I grab it to see if the series is any good.

You don't have to have read Lone Wolf to read this book. The events in the previous books are mentioned, but this story is stand-alone. It's a fascinated case, where the kidnapper leaves messages that have to be deciphered in time to save the women taken. If too much time is spent on deciphering the message, well then it's over for the woman. And, the clues are not always that easy. Luckily, Meg knows someone that is great with word games, her sisters Cara.

I quite like this book. I adore reading crime novels with dogs, and in this case is Hawk one of the "main characters" in the book as he is a search-and-rescue dog. And, Hawk and the other search-and-rescue dogs are needed in this case as they often only have the locations to where the woman is and have to search to find her before it's too late. And, yes I liked the humans too (lol). FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings who is Hawk's owner and also the one that is taunted by the kidnapper in this book. It's easy to like Meg and I will definitely try to get hold of Lone Wolf to read what happened in that book. Cara.

It's a fast-paced book that only took a couple of hours for me to read, but that was very nice to read something "lighter". I felt that this is a perfect book when I want something less heavy, but not too light to read.

Follow the Rules and let death win!! This is the choice Special FBI Agent Meg Jennings has to make. Her passion is her job as is her K-9 partner Hawk. Major good book with puzzles to solve and crimes that have their core in Civil War History. The mastermind criminal is making his goal to kill Meg over and over by targeting look alike victims. Sequels are usually not as fine as the original but Driscoll has broken that mold. In depth characters along with complex twists make this a fantastic read. Can't wait to see what happens in #3. Meg and Hawk are a great human/K-9 team and it was wonderful catching up with them again. I don’t know if I could do the work Meg and her fellow K-9 handlers do for the FBI but I admire them and others like them heartily!

This book is as filled with suspense and danger as the first one was but instead of a maker of bombs to be caught there is a serial killer that must be stopped. With each victim a doppelganger of Meg and her name mentioned on each of the notes retrieved from the sites women disappear from Meg sees there must be some personal vendetta behind what is happening BUT who hates her enough to do what is being done? Each time a woman is taken there is a time limit set for the team to find her before she dies. Each time a woman is taken the stakes are increased and the time limit for the team to find and save the victim from death increasingly crucial. Rooting for Meg, Hawk and the team working on the case is a given. The intensity of each search is agonizing and tiring. The Confederate facts at the beginning of each chapter are essential, educational and pertinent to the story. The input from Meg’s sister, journalist McCord and Fireman Webb is indispensable.

I enjoyed this book as much as the first and look forward to what is coming next. Romance is not a big part of this story but it is lurking in the wings and I look forward to finding out what will be happening in this arena for Meg, her sister and some of the others in the book. The dogs are a delight and so very talented…just as are their handlers.

What can I say except – if you like dogs, K-9 stories, action, suspense, puzzles and more then you will enjoy this book…at least I did. As for everything in the book being totally realistic? Perhaps not BUT it definitely does not detract from the story.
