This is the second book in the series I have won through early reviewers. Like the first book, the story starts out with what looks like a simple spaceship repossession but soon turns into a tangled mess of competing agendas. Nathan Teller has to deal with organized crime and corrupt police to see this job get done. In the end he will find his ship severely damaged and his business on the brink of ruin, mostly because of a bad decision. Not quite as good as the first book in the series but still a lot of fun to read. ( )Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. There are a couple of interesting things about Bad Rock Beat Down. The first is that beat down is how you feel when you read this book. The tone and action of the book are congruent with the title! The main character just can't win a break and is constantly being assaulted or slipping on a banana peel or having his plans fall apart. Perhaps this is some kind of new wave defeatist movement in SF I was unaware of. Anyway, it becomes quite tedious not to have the poor fellow succeed at something. Another feature of the book is that it could have happened anywhere. It could have happened in San Bernardino or the Outback or the Atacama because one doesn’t really get a sense of the setting. I suppose if you go in rooting for the antagonists you might have a more pleasurable time. So, picture our hero with a lampshade on his head and big floppy shoes and you may have a more enjoyable experience. It is a relief that the action moves along at a good clip. Good, fun sci-fi read, more of a character story, with the setting being a sci-fi adventure. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Bad Rock Beatdown was my introduction to this particular series. Without reading the prior book, I didn't think I "needed" to read the prior book to enjoy this story. This was a pretty quick read and I honestly felt that this was more of a novella than a full fledged novel. The two biggest issues I had with this story was what I perceived as 1 dimensional characters and some sub-plots that were not really needed or fleshed out to really be a larger part of this story. Does a great job of talking through some serious issues while keeping lots of action and adventure in the mix. I thoroughly enjoyed it. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A sci-fi crime novel set in a dirty, corrupt universe. The starship repossession agents of Milky Way Repo are sent to the desolate settlement of Bad Rock to retrieve a vessel. Once there, they become entangled with a notorious thug running a smuggling operation for the Syndicate. Struggling to do the right thing while trying to complete their job, things go seriously awry with deadly consequences. "The Milky Way Repo universe is populated by hard working men and women who are trying to make their way in a tough world. They are scrappy business owners who find themselves beset by criminals in the course of doing their jobs. How they deal with this adversity makes for entertaining stories." - Michael Prelee, author No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
