I can see this being wonderful for the right reader. But I found the narrator/MC implausible. In many ways she was wise & articulate beyond her years, but in others she was a very slow learner. I guess that's often true irl, though... but it just didn't feel right to me. And I cannot stand her parents. I agree that it's ok that Conford's books have fallen out of print - this theme, at least, is done better elsewhere. ( )
