I love the writing in this book! This is a book for the true romantic. The author writes with a poetic hand. I thought it was atmospheric and haunting. Oddly I felt as if I were the ghost though. I was the one haunting the characters. I was transported to 1930's Puerto Rico and it was I drifting through scene after scene bearing witness to love found, love lost, love searched for, love longed for. I haunted the characters for their memories. I followed them in their search for the labyrinth. I hungered for all they offered and wanted more. If you choose to read this book, (if you are romantic you must!), make sure to set aside time undisturbed.
The pace of the book is slow. For me, that felt the right speed though others may disagree. Maybe it is the flow of language. Maybe it is my own perception that time moves slower in certain places or times and with certain circumstances. For whatever reason, I thought it moved perfectly with the story being told. I loved going back through the memories of the characters. If you are not use to reading stories written this way, the floating in and out of memories may be a bit confusing until you find your way. There is also not as much dialogue as other books have. I remember, at one point, thinking of the movie The Others. Not a great movie but the story and the atmosphere, I loved. I was also reminded of books I had read by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This author has the same ability to make me feel that Marquez does. The only thing worth living for, and dying for, is love. Insert a huge sigh here. I sighed while reading. I sighed at the ending. I sigh upon remembering it. My heart yearns for this love that is worth everything.
I received an e copy of this book from the author through BookTasters. I was offered it to read. I voluntarily wrote a review. I especially try to write reviews for books I fell in love with. I want everyone to read those. This book is one I fell in love with. I hope you do to. ( )

"The only thing worth living for, and dying for, is love."

Felix Alexander poetically blends together a well balanced mix of different genres that include: historical fiction, romance, and crime-mystery that are all tied together by urban legends, myths and faith. If you have a special bookish someone in your life, and are in need of any bookish gift ideas, then I suggest [book:The Last Valentine|32978448]! It's publish date is on Feb. 13th 2017 (which is my birthday, yaaayy!), so it's perfect for this holiday!

This story takes place in 1934, in a city called Old Sienna, located along the Southern coast of Puerto Rico. Olivia, the daughter of a drunkard police investigator (and our MC) discovers a blood stained letter in one of her father's coat pockets. Upon learning that the letter was written from a recently unidentified murder victim, to the woman he secretly loves, Olivia insists on delivering it to it's rightful place: the Labyrinth of Love Letter's.

With the help of her long time childhood friend, Isaac Quintero, Olivia begins her search of this mysterious place, which is believed by many to only be an urban legend. Following any leads they're able to find, the pair uncover some of Old Sienna's darkest secrets, as well as some of those closest to them - the perils, madness and depth of tragic love.

Filex Alexander writes about love as if he's been in it most of his life! He beautifully depicts emotions! His characters are fully developed and the world building is good. My only real complaint is that there are times when the author tends to give the reader a bunch lengthy paragraphs of info all at once. While the "info dumps" are useful and fun to read, they tend to take away from the story at times. The beginning of this book is slowly paced, but the story does pick up and the mystery grips you and sucks you in.

This is a romance novel worth reading, especially if you have a love for Puerto Rico, romance, urban lengends and crime-mysteries.

**** I received an eBook copy of this title in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Booktasters for introducing me to this author and thank you to Felix Alexander for giving Me the chance to read and review his novle. **** ( )
