This is such a fun ride. Madeline is a fun character. She is young and not sure what she should be doing in her life. She loves intrigue and is very observant of some things. Not so observant of men who have romantic ideas about her. This is 1901 and women still cannot do many things men can do but Madeline tries to get away with what she can. I like this in her. There is a bit of intrigue but this is more of a fun book. I received an ebook copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will. ( )

Such a Tease by Chautona Havig is second in her Meddlin' Madeline series and it is a good one. Madeline is a working gal now, much to her most proper aunt's chagrin, and begins to see some problems with the same guy (Mr. Smythe) she tangled with in Sweet on You. Is he as a cheat in his business dealings like he was in his personal ones or is Madeline mistaken and misjudging him? The characters are likeable and real. Through the mystery we see Madeline struggling with relationships with the fellows--"if the fellows were just fellows instead of potential beaux" and her faith--she wondered if her prayers were too impertinent. The author does a great job with keeping the time period (early 1900s) accurate and uses subtle humor to keep the story line light and interesting. I chuckled throughout the book. In reference to Mr. Biggs..."I suppose he just got too Biggs for his britches" and referring to herself, Madeline wonders if she deserves tarring and feathering--with crow feathers, that is! The romantic tension with Russell, her best friend's brother, continues in this book as well and is left at a point where readers will hope there is another book in this series. As fun mystery that will keep you guessing to the end.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour. ( )
