2-5th grade.
Teaches about estimation and rounding taught by dinosaurs.
Nice visuals and makes the estimating easy to understand, but it is very long and uses lots of words on page. I wouldn't use this as a read aloud or to introduce estimation to my kiddos.

Great vocabulary in this book about estimating and rounding numbers. The way the author uses pictures to teach this lesson is perfect for many readers. you can use the book to introduce the topic to your students or even as a review at the end and before the test. ( )

This book is about rounding and estimating numbers. It gives examples of which place to round too and it also explains when a good time to round it and when it is not. I would use this book as an introduction to a math lesson about rounding and estimating or I would read the book before a test over rounding and estimating just to get my student's brains thinking and give them some reminders before taking the test. 10/10 recommend. While this book is very educational as it explains the power of estimating and the difference between rounding and estimating, it is not very appealing to young children. There is no story line to this book. It is simple a series of ways to round numbers in order to get an estimate. I will say that the one positive about this book is that it does have real life applications of ways to round in order to get an estimate. Beginning with estimating your age is supplies an example that is easy for children to understand. Children may also understand how and why you estimate when buying groceries, as mentioned in the book. But I do not find it necessary to explain to young children how to round by the nearest 1,000 because that may be too advance for the age group that I feel this book is intended for. The lack of a story line makes this book difficult to follow as it seems to be more about place value. As mentioned I feel that this book is intended for a younger audience, mostly because of the illustrations, but I feel the contents of the book are too advanced for children of this age to comprehend fully. Let's Estimate: A Book About Estimating and Rounding Numbers by David A. Adler teaches us about estimation in a way that students can get it. It tells us that estimation is an "approximate" or "about." You use estimation because sometimes it is difficult to give an exact answer. This book also talks about rounding, and the different types of ways you would use rounding for. You use rounding to make it easier to figure out a number. You estimate to make a guess. This book offers several kid-friendly examples on how to estimate and round. This would definitely be an educational book for a math classroom. The pictures are fun and go well with the text on the pages. ( )
