On a time-sensitive mission to retrieve a crashed spy satellite in Greenland, the elite Sirius Sledge Patrol's first female patroller has to gut it out to survive the Arctic and a team of ruthless mercenaries. When her patrol partner is killed during the mission Konstabel Fenna Brongaard tarnishes the unit's military history as the first Sirius patroller to be investigated for murder.    Following her arrest, fog isolates the village of Ittoqqortoormiit and Fenna from the outside world. When the investigation takes a vicious turn, Fenna must trust a Greenlandic policeman if she is to clear her name, only to discover that her reputation is the least of her worries. When a mysterious adventure cruise ship enters Greenlandic waters, Fenna discovers that alone in the world of men, if you run with dogs you have to fight like wolves. The Ice Star is the first book in Christoffer Petersen's adrenaline-fueled Greenland thriller series. If you like Matthew Reilly's Scarecrow Series and Bear Grylls' Will Jaeger books then you'll love Christoffer Petersen's raw action thriller. Pick up The Ice Star to begin your Arctic action adventure today! What readers say about The Ice Star: ★★★★★ 'Conspiracy, Intrigue, Action. The Ice Star is an excellent platform for Konstabel Fenna Brongaard's debut into the world of espionage. This story is almost all action and Fenna has to grit it out, all the way through. It's all about survival. Survival against the brutal arctic environment, and survival against brutal, professional killers. All the while needling to get to the bottom of the rotten goings on. I loved this story. It was a great read. A fast paced, page turning, thriller. What more could you want? The next in the series, naturally.' ★★★★★ 'An intriguing book. The author paints a vivid picture of life above the Arctic Circle in very a remote and exotic location. As a woman I found the conclusion of the book particularly satisfying so I've committed to the second and third book of the trilogy.' ★★★★★ 'Love the character of Fenna. A real femme fatale. Interesting locales. Great villains. I like the locales, Greenland, Denmark, Canada. A complex political subplot with. A strong story of adventure. Fenna is a very. Well written character.' ★★★★★ 'Very different but brilliant! Having never read a novel by this author I felt I should try it! What an amazing rollercoaster of a story it was. Reading about Greenland itself was interesting as you really felt you were there with Fenna ( main female character) who I thought was brilliant and handled herself well in a dog eat dog world, run by corrupt men who will do anything for money, especially those in Canada.'  ★★★★★ 'A unique experience. The writing is brilliant and the author is 100% without the usual ideas of what women in books should look, sound, or act like. I just can't say that strongly enough--the female characters are completely without the usual stereotypical depictions of super-heroines or princesses needing male rescue, nor is importance placed on whether they are "pretty" or not. They just do what they have to do when thrown into circumstances.' ★★★★★ 'Fantastic. This is adventure of pure class. Once you turn the first page the adventure begins. I can't wait to read the next book of the trilogy.' ★★★★★ 'Chilling Greenland crime thriller! A rapid pace investigation with surprising twists and turns of horror. Read and get to know a tough female who knows her job and fears no one.'… (más)

I have been trying to get my hands on some action / adventure thrillers set in the icescape of Greenland, and The Ice Star is a pretty good start! It is the first in a trilogy featuring Konstabel Fenna Brongaard, the first female member of the Sirius Patrol traversing the Arctic. What starts as a straight forward task to retrieve some parts of a broken satellite far in the northeast Greenland quickly becomes a nightmare for Fenna, who struggles to understand the conspiracy she has been dragged into, while trying to keep herself alive.

The plot is absorbing right from the start to the finish, and the action on the rugged, desolate setting is riveting. Fenna's character is well written, with a mix of toughness and sensitivity, and has scope to develop in the future novels. The characters of Maratse and Kula, though underdeveloped, are interesting too. The one who held my attention and left me wondering what he was about though is Mike Burwardsley, the ruthless British mercenary.

Reading this book has made me aware of the geopolitics involving Greenland, and the Arctic itself, that is being played out among Canada, Denmark and other developed nations. The intricacies of dog sledging, described engagingly, are another thing I very much enjoyed reading about.

All these positives apart, there are some important things that are inexplicable even after careful, repeated reading, like the motive behind the crucial plot element of collecting the satellite's parts, and the purpose of Fenna's interrogation by the someone claiming to be a Danish Naval officer. Maybe the book has been written that way, or something has been lost in translation, or I am too dense to understand it. Whatever may be the reason, my pleasure in reading this action-packed thriller set in the most amazing of locations is somewhat soured by these lacunae. That said, I am planning to read the remaining books of this trilogy and see if they are better... ( )
