Some of the rhymes have been slightly altered to fit the English/Spanish mash up better. The illustrations are also extremely adorable. (Added bonus - glossary up front to check pronunciation.) I love they way children's literature is heading, to be more inclusive. It is a great way to introduce other languages to English speaking children while building the confidence of Spanish speaking children who are learning English. I hope this trend continues to the point where we have multilingual children. Susan Middleton Elya is one of my "go-to" authors for bilingual children's books. La Madre Goose is a selection of classic English nursery rhymes re-worked for a bilingual audience. Some of them are even more endearing in their new format, like "Old Madre Rosario." "Old Madre Rosario went to el armario to get her poor dog un hueso. But when she got there, el armario was bare, so she gave her poor dog un beso." There - isn't that so much better than the hungry dog in Old Mother Hubbard? The illustrations by Juana Martinez-Neal are joyful paintings in cheery colors, and according to the dust jacket, several picture her children. Lovely! http://shelf-employed.blogspot.com sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
