Tovi is preparing for Halloween and needs to get a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to make a spooky pumpkin lamp. He meets a couple of friends along the way and hijinks ensue. The artwork is really cute. I have a fondness for penguins anyway, and Tovi is certainly adorable. The story is very simple. Tovi’s friends were not named until the last third of the book, though they’d been part of the story for a few pages at that point. I’m sure the target audience of children wouldn’t notice that though. Otherwise, it’s a cute book and there are more in the Tovi series if you wish to see a cute penguin visit Paris or outer space. Dark colored words in a gray cloud make it difficult to read. This one starts out when Tovi is searching for their pumpkin this year but spooky things happen. Relatives are able to scare one another making this very funny and silly at times. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. The pictures are great. I love the bright colors and the scenes that Tovi is in as the story goes on. But I find that it's lacking any kind of lesson or message, which is usually, in my opinion, the point of children's books.
Plus some of the pages are condensed 2 to 1 page, and even on my newer, larger kindle, that's a pain. (
