On a coastal path in Norfolk a body has been discovered. For Detective Sergeant Kate Brannon her job is to discover which of the 40 residents of the nearby fishing had means and motive - actually nearly all of them as the dead person was not well liked.
A NetGalley book. ( )

This reads like your usual british crime fiction, which I enjoy very much. I enjoyed the building relationship between Kate and Gina, although at first I wasn't very convinced by it. Your bff was just murdered and you're oggling the ass of the one who is investigating it? But there is a lot of character development and I love how Gina's daughter wasn't just there on the sidelines, but played a big part in her life and in the story as well.

Sadly the crime development was... boring. It's just obvious how it was done way before the police comes to the same conclusion.

This was the first novel in the Norfolk Coast Investigation series. And it was quite the mystery with just a bit of romance thrown in for awesome measure.

It's mainly the story of Kate and Gina. Kate is a Police DS who gets called in when a dead body is found on the beach. Gina is a friend of the victim and had also worked for her. She and her daughter Sammy though, get all entangled in the case as it goes along, and then another wrench is thrown into the mix as well. Kate and Gina start having feelings for one another.

I think because it's the first book in the series the romance part of the book was one of the most epiclly slow of slow burns that I've read. Not a bad thing, just a slooowwww thing. Heh.

The mystery on the other hand had me mostly guessing for a good portion of the story line. At least in regards to who did it. I did sort of guess early on in the story what was being done for the most part. (Probably my own fault for having read way too many mysteries in my life at this point). Still, guessing that part didn't detract from the novel at all.

I really liked the secondary characters too. Like Sammy and William. Even Leah was a nicely developed character. And then there was Dr. Anderson, the Coroner. I really wanted to see more of her in this story (what can I say I like MEs and ME adjacent characters)

All in all though it was quite an enjoyable ride of a story.

I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Ylva Publishing. ( )
