A wounded young woman takes refuge in writing a gothic romance, where a principal character just happens to resemble the twin brothers of the friend at whose home she is staying. It’s pure coincidence. Lyssie has never met them before. But coincidence blends with the hand of love and mercy in this tale, as Lyssie struggles to forgive herself, comfort a friend, and save a child. Meanwhile she’s falling in love, like the protagonist of her novel, with a character who might lead her into danger.

Gothic romance blends with lifestyles of the rich and famous in this book. The luxury of a modern manor is beautifully described and truly comes to life. Dark corridors, sumptuous apartments, breakfast waiting in the morning, servants in the kitchen, horse riding around the manor and hiding places in the forest... It’s easy to imagine this all forming a series on TV. Meanwhile tension mounts, unseen visitors prowl, and mysteries abound.

Author Alice K Arenz brings both stories to a satisfying close in this novel, leaving the reader pleased, and providing a pleasingly lowkey view of generous faith. It’s an enjoyable novel.
